The business plan
This is an update to the business plan I wrote in 2009 for my business. To see why I would do such a thing, check out my "What's The Plan" post. To check out the entire plan, please visit my business plan page. Enjoy!
Overview
April was a smoking month for sales. 24% more sales than expected in fact!
The reason? I produced more of my own contracts. Three to be exact. I was busy, but not terribly more than March.

Sales were obviously good. Given that, the only other big difference when looking at the budget vs. actual numbers was the equipment expense. It was huge at $4,000 over budget. If you look back at January, February, and March, you’ll see that I had accumulated a few thousand dollars of unspent budget. Despite this large number, it is pretty much on budget.

Conclusion
With sales like April, I could really start to lessen up the subcontract work. In spite of this, I’m quite loath to give up the subcontract work entirely. You never know when sales will slow, and after a few non-stellar months in January and February, I need to build up some financial reserves.
My biggest issue is that I can’t seem to say no to work. I know what it is like to not get any, and I hate that feeling of looking at the bank account and wondering how I’m going to make it until the next month. In the short term I’m going to be sacrificing work on this website to get the paid work, but in the end I no I can’t get out of this cycle until I’m foolish / brave enough to drop contracts for a few months and simply put more time on this content marketing thing.
