The Small Business Doer

Overview

Wow, I thought October was busy. Well, November was even busier. Yeah me!

That was a joke, the “yeah me” part. I did nothing special, I just got work. I could have been a totally crap month as well. It just so happens that I received a lot of requests.

In any case, November was busy, but I couldn’t say that it felt any busier than October. I pushed off a lot of my admin work, so I know I’ll be busier in December doing that type of work.

Something else happened, my car died. Yup, had a ’93 Honda Civic with 260K on it and it finally gave out. For 2011 I’ll be now forced to add some extra money towards the vehicle budget. I was trying to keep on to the car as long as possible because it worked, it was paid off, and it was quite fuel efficient. Cars are generally a depreciating asset, meaning that they lose value with time. So, spending more money on a nicer car is usually an extra expense, unless it is saving you on gas or repairs. It’s not an investment, like a property, house or certain pieces of equipment.

Budget

Here’s the highlights:

• Video income was big as usual, but the reason for the big month is due to income from business services (business consulting / business plan writing) and website design kicking in.
• Advertising was bigger than budgeted thanks to another payment towards my Small Business Doer site redesign and payments towards the vancouvervideographer.ca url.
• Besides that, nothing much too out of the ordinary. Profit was great, and helps to make up for the slower month of August.

Conclusion

I’m getting behind on the growth part of my business. Even though November was a good month, I need to spend more time working on this smallbusinessdoer.com site and growing the business. I have a few videos lined up for the DIY or GO PRO section of this site and need to sit down and start editing.
