Prelude

This is my first part of my business plan publicly posted. Basic information about the company. Nothing too exciting, but it lays the ground work for the business plan. In case you’re wondering, usually the Executive Summary is the first part of the business plan. Since the plan is not complete, and the Executive Summary is the last thing you write, that’s why it isn’t the first section of the plan you’ll be seeing, but instead the last.

Company Background and History

Greg Lam Consulting is a sole proprietorship and was launched in August 2009 in Burnaby, BC. The slogan is “Improving business with digital technology”. The company will operate the www.gregalam.com website as well as the www.smallbusinessdoer.com website. The gregalam.com website will be more client and sales focussed, the smallbusinessdoer.com will be focussed more on the public with business stories, advice, tutorials, and recommendations.

Locations

The business will be home-based as most work is either done at a computer, which can be located anywhere, or at the premises of clients. Operating the business from home will keep overhead costs to a minimum and eliminate commute time. As the business grows, contract workers and/or employees will be mostly able to work from their homes.

Facilities

The business currently owns a high performance computer system capable of editing HDV video and performing computer programming and administrative tasks. Additionally all basic office equipment is already owned, including desk, filing system, and printer/fax/photocopier. The business will be renting a basic digital video setup, including HDV digital camcorder, tripod, and audio equipment. The digital video setup will be rented as it allows the greatest flexibility in terms of choice of equipment and termination of rent. The cost is similar to that of a lease or financing, but without the benefit of ownership at the end of the lease or financing.
