You’re most likely coming to the Small Biz Doer site for help with some small-business issue you’re having. You want to get the best, most up-to-date and unbiased advice out there.
We hear that.
At Small Biz Doer we do our best to be as unbiased and objective as possible. We say we “do our best” because it would be inaccurate to assume that people can be totally unbiased. Everyone has a bias, even if they don’t think they do. By using the very products and services we talk about in our businesses we start to become biased towards them.
We believe it’s in our best interest to report as objectively as possible because if we don’t, people will figure this out pretty quick and not come back to visit us. In today’s information age, it’s the quality of the information that counts, and that’s the currency we trade in.
At Small Biz Doer we say things the way we see it. And our message is geared towards fellow small business people – that’s who we write and do research for.
Doing research, testing, writing and educating takes time. Doing it well takes even more time. “Time is money” as the old saying goes. As you probably know, any business that doesn’t make a profit over time will go out of business. And Small Biz Doer is no exception, so we also have to make money like any other business enterprise.
Here’s the full disclosure on how we make money and how it affects the quality of information that you get from Small Biz Doer:
- Advertising – This may consist of display ads or links to companies that provide products and/or services that benefit small businesses. Sometimes these will be companies we use, sometimes they won’t.
- Recommendations – We may, in the future, set up a “recommendations” page featuring services that we’ve used and tested. We would only mention products and services that we would use ourselves on this page.
- Education Products – This would be information created by us to help out the small business person. We typically give out a lot of information for free. The thing is, there’s lot of places around the internet where you can also get great free information. However, not all of this free stuff is accurate or even good. And that’s where we come in. We’ve made it our mission to help people learn about business, solve problems they encounter along the way and become better entrepreneurs as a result of Small Biz Doer courses.
- Marketing / Information Services for Companies – One of our specialties at Small Biz Doer is informing and educating small business people. We sometimes create content for companies that need help with this. This content will not change our review of a company (if the company happens to be the type of company we’d review).
We want to make something clear. We won’t make money by getting paid to write reviews. We will always give our honest opinion regarding products and services that we come across. We will not be swayed to give a positive review, or not publish a negative review, based on any business dealing we have with a company. We would rather stop dealing with a company because they don’t like our review than abandon our goal to give objective un-biased information to small business people.
If we ever link to a product or service using an affiliate link, we’ll let you know. In case you don’t know what that is, an affiliate link is a hyperlinked word or phrase within the text of a website that carries tracking code that lets a company know that Small Biz Doer has referred a customer to them. Many websites are created with the sole purpose of getting people to click on these affiliate links. We are not one of those sites.
If you ever see anything on the site that concerns you or is inaccurate or simply want to give us a virtual pat on the back (we love to get those too occasionally), please don’t hesitate to let us know. We’re always trying to be the best at what we do and to serve small business people better.
